This is the 25th Anniversary of the Sizzler on St George Island. The Sizzler was first started by Dr. Hobson Fulmer to provide a running venue for the Franklin County High School Cross Country Team under the auspices of Tate’s Hell Track Club. He also organized the race since, at that time, there were no summer events in the area after the 4th of July. Until 2017, the Sizzler was organized by and benefited The Franklin County Humane Society; they were discontinuing the Sizzler in 2018 as a fundraiser since they were establishing BrewFest as their fundraising event. In 2018, Elder Care Community Council of Franklin county assumed the organization and sponsorship of the Sizzler as a fundraiser for elder services.
Mary Stutzman, Race Director says, “We are very excited to be celebrating the 25th year of the Sizzler. We have water available before and after the run as well as 2 water stations on the course. You are welcomed at the finish with an ice cold washcloth! This year’s Sizzler is being chip timed by Gulf Winds Track Club. We encourage walkers as well as runners to participate. This event has only been possible over the years due to the great community and volunteer support that we receive.”
Please join in to be a sponsor, a volunteer or a runner or walker on August 6th. The One Mile is at 6:30 and the 5K Race is at 7pm. Registration starts at 4pm at Berkshire Hathaway on SGI. There is a post race party with BBQ sandwiches. Tickets are for sale on Eventbrite under the ECCC SGI Sizzler. Call us at 850-370-0116 for more information or to sign up to volunteer.
There will be an auction to benefit ECCC starting on August 8th. To donate for the auction, text a picture of the item to 850-509-5009. 100% of the funds raised from the Sizzler and the auction will go to purchase food for the lunches for seniors in Franklin County. 13,173 lunches have been distributed so far in 2022. Please help us feel those people in need in our neighborhoods.
